Mobil's History:
Mobil was previously known as Socony-Vacuum Oil Company, a major American oil company. After the break-up of Standard Oil in 1911, the Standard Oil Company of New York, (Socony for short), was founded. In 1920, the company registered the name "Mobiloil" as a trademark.
Mobil at Hicksville, New York, continues as a major brand name and as a gas station, repair shop, body shop, and they have their own Mini-Mart store. In 1999 Mobil merged with Exxon to form ExxonMobil.
